Redskins Vs. Eagles: Pregame Notes

Landover, MD-In light of Donovan McNabb's extension he signed today, the Washington Redskins have every reason to go out fired up tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles. If the locker room respects McNabb as much as reports indicate, then nothing would be more appropriate than the team playing four quarters of inspired football tonight behind the play of their newly signed QB. Fresh off the bye, with uncertainty over McNabb's situation ended, I can only expect a better performance from him.

We can bicker about the long-term effects of this deal later because tonight the Redskins have a crucial game against a division rival. Maybe this was another elaborate PR move by Dan Snyder or maybe it was to show the Shanahans really do believe McNabb is their guy. Regardless, he is the man in DC for at least the next few season and the assurance of that could mean we see an improved offensive effort.

You can get the inactives here on SB Nation DC. Brandon Banks will be in uniform, which is remarkable considering initial reports anticipated he would miss at least two games after undergoing knee surgery over the bye week.

This is a better matchup for the Redskins offensive line. They struggle against larger defensive fronts, but the Eagles boast a lighter, quicker front four and they only sacked McNabb once in the team's first meeting. The Eagles don't have a power player in the middle so if Trent Williams can hold his own against Elite pass rusher Trent Cole, the Redskins will move the ball more consistently.

Eagles starting free safety Nate Allen will miss the game. He intercepted McNabb earlier this year. The Eagles are starting Kurt Coleman who is their only other safety on the roster. That could be helpful for McNabb.

The key on defense is obviously to contain Mike Vick. If the defense plays solid on the edges and employs the same bump and run they used the first time around against DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin it could be another solid night. If you frustrate Vick, turnovers can follow.

I'll have more following the game including a recap, postgame reactions, and a feature for SB Nation DC.
